Key manufacturing requirements

Confirm these points on the drawing and purchase specification.

  • Cover and enclosureIdentify mounting perimeters, gasket paths, cable entries and any bearing supports on the component drawing.
  • Mating faces and fasteningSet functional datums, hole patterns, thread engagement and machining stock without distorting thin edges.
  • Cooling and clearancesSpecify fins, ribs, thermal interfaces and assembly clearances. Cooling performance requires separate validation.
  • Material and finishAgree the alloy, forming route, coating thickness, masked surfaces and electrical contact areas.
  • Product acceptanceDefine dimensional, thread and surface checks. IP, EMC or thermal ratings require validation of the specified assembly.

Questions

Questions from OEM teams

Can an IP rating be assigned from the metal cover alone?

No. The specified enclosure, seals, entries and assembly conditions must be considered in the applicable validation.

Are cooling fins proof of a thermal result?

They are visible design features. A thermal result needs a defined operating condition and documented evaluation.
